Tonight on MeTV- we’ve got a really BIG show- featuring some actors you see on MeTV, a singer/dancer you know from her amazing 1982 hit, plus one of our favorite singers with a connection to our show- all mixed up in a sci fi wonder from the notorious Bert I. Gordon, known for doing movies about oversized menaces- as a boy genius’ odd formula turns a quiet California town into the “Village of the Giants”!
A group of ne’er-do-well teens ( some looking a little old for that label) have their car break down on the outskirts of the afore-mentioned town- and, after a wacky dance party in some mud ( you heard me), they sneak into the little burg- where local girl Nancy is entertaining her boyfriend Mike, while her younger brother- the aptly nicknamed “Genius”- is doing some scientific experimentation. His lab work ends up in an explosive creation- of a pink foamy substance that- when ingested- makes living things grow. No, not like plant fertilizer- this stuff works on dogs- and ducks!
When the hooligan teens hit town, after breaking and entering a deserted theatre to clean up, they visit a local dance club (where the Beau Brummels happen to be playing), and meet Nancy and Mike- and don’t get along with either! THEN- the giant ducks show up ( seriously) and the crowd is amazed! The troublemakers hear that Mike knows how the birds got so big- and begin to see dollar signs- if they can nab that formula, they can sell it for big bucks! Through making a crafty connection with Genius- they find out where the magic stuff is- and set out to steal it.
Later, back at their theatre lair- some of the young toughs get into a power struggle- that somehow ends with the chunk of formula- known as “goo” (a highly scientific name)- being cut up, with everybody trying to prove how fearless they are by eating a piece. The result- they all start to grow into giants- out-growing their clothing ( a real audience pleaser for some people)- and realizing that there’s fee-fi-fo-fun in their new huge condition!
The titanic teens set out to control the town- cutting off any contact to the outside world, and taking one critical hostage that will force the Sheriff and populace to do their bidding. When the town’s adults seem powerless against the dictatorial giants, Mike decides it’s up to his gang of good kids to find a way to stand up to the massive menaces- and save the town. Will Genius come up with a new formula that will bring the bad boys (and girls) down to size?
This 1965 sci fi movie is obviously aimed at the teen audience that was enjoying that era’s beach party flicks- with good looking guys and gals, goofy comedy, and a little rock and roll thrown in. Among the musical acts is our friend Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon! As for the cast, we’ll give you their info- including Ron Howard as “Genius”, Tommy Kirk as Mike, Beau Bridges as bad boy Fred, Johnny Crawford as good guy Horsey ( maybe a nod to his work in “The Rifleman”?), and that 1982 hit maker Toni Basil as the dynamic dancing machine Red! There are even more familiar faces along the way-including Tisha Sterling, who I always had a crush on- and , since Freddy Cannon is along for the ride- we’ll show you a live performance he did this past Halloween season, with me joining him on stage for his Sven tribute song! Plus, to keep our fans interested if this movie isn’t quite their cup of goo, we have added in a little Svensurround here and there throughout the movie.
"Village of the Giants" makes its huge appearance on MeTV tonight at 8pm eastern/pacific, 7 central – if unsure of the where and when in your area, check local listings and/or the info at www.metv.com . Once again- if you’re recording us on your DVR – you need to double-check what your provider listing our show as- either the show title Svengoolie or the movie title. Chicago area viewers can get spooked once more by the “Ghost of Frankenstein”- as well as my “brother” Fraido- at 11 am on WCIU, the U !
You can keep us trending nationally on Twitter by joining the viewers Tweeting during the program, using the hashtag #svengoolie . Something tells me this will be a big week for it (okay, enough with the “big” business…)
The supply of the latest Sven action figures is still holding out, thanks to some pre-planning- so check them out at our store here on the site. Even with a larger inventory, the sales have been amazing- especially in view of the fact that we have yet to even mention their existence on the air!
Join us tonight for some growing pains in the neck out to make a tiny town a wreck!

You may have noticed I used real names, this just to let you know how appreciative I am. This truly means so much to me. We will now go back to regularly scheduled nicknames - for "blog's sake"! 🤣. As opposed to for "heaven's sake"!
And for those of you that wrote a letter .... Mr. Bill, I will respond to you personally LOL 😉

Well, weather-wise here, we're too wet, with concerns over rivers flooding. So far, by the time we get a cold winter blast, which we should get by tomorrow evening, the precipitation in the atmosphere has already been pushed out. Time will tell whether or not we manage to get a blast of cold air in, and then some precip moving in on top of it. So far we are having a damp, cool winter-just "blah."
Normally, this isn't tornado season, but with our weather swinging from abnormally warm back to more seasonal cold temps, we unfortunately have that threat over the next couple of days.
Well while the Easties are bracing for California's left overs I'm in gym shorts and no sleeves. Though our local stores have signs hung up that they are short on some things cause the trucks 🚛 weren't allowed over the pass. You Easties hunker down and be safe. See y'all in a bit.
It looks like maybe you did not get my post, so I wanted to send you condolences & a virtual hug.
