Don't go outside - there's something in "The Mist" Tonight!

Posted on by

Tonight, on MeTV- The Sven Squad – Gwengoolie, Nostalgiaferatoo and IMP aka Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein – are premiering the 2007 Frank Darabont directed thriller “The Mist” on House of Svengoolie. Get ready to feel your way through 2 and a half hours of terror which you both can’t see coming and then wish you hadn’t seen once you do. We would like to add a special welcome to our SVENBLOG members who better stock up on audible gasps for your viewing of our film with us tonight.

In what seems like an idyllic small town in Maine where the Draytons – dad David (Thomas Jane), mom Steff (Kelly Collins Lintz) and young son Billy (Nathan Gamble) live next door to their neighbor Brent (Andre Braugher) turns out to be anything but. A storm blows into town, David, Billy and Brent go to the grocery store in town, pass a military evacuation convoy on the way there (that was a red flag you fellas missed) and get trapped by … THE MIST. It’s not fog. It’s not low clouds. It’s not a dance party fog machine …well in the movie it’s not. In real life, they used a crazy number of fog machines on the production.

In addition to finding The Mist while they are trapped in the grocery store, David, Billy and Trent encounter a giant ensemble cast. And we mean, a LOT of people in this cast. To name only a fraction of them, we’ve got: bible obsessed Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden); local Dan Miller (Jeffrey DeMunn) who, when the alarms are sounding, warns us all, “There’s something in the mist!”; the kindhearted mom Amanda Dunfrey (Laurie Holden); store clerk Ollie Weeks (Toby Jones) whose tougher than he looks; the creatively named “Woman With Kids At Home” (Melissa McBride) who is more multi-dimensional than her character name suggests; the wishy-washy Jim (William Sadler) who kind of agrees with whoever he talked to last (pick a lane Jim!); and Private Jessup (Sam Witwer) who may know something about the military’s experiment (Project Arrowhead) that may be the root cause of The Mist and its variety of terrifying monsters hiding in it.

The folks have a lot of different ideas about what do when the monsters show up. And it gets almost as scary inside the store as it is outside in The Mist. Some make the big move over to the pharmacy. Some decide to head out of the area. No spoilers here, but if you haven’t seen this film, the ending is one you’ll never see coming and you never will forget. Don’t read about it, just watch the film and thank Frank Darabont for changing the ending of Stephen King’s short story to this one in the film or as King said, “I thought that was terrific.”

This 2007 film was made by Dimension Films and distributed by MGM. “The Walking Dead” fans will of course recognize the name of the film’s Director/Writer/Producer Frank Darabont, and you’ll see a whole lot of actors in “The Mist” who would later go on to star in “The Walking Dead.” We’ll give you background on the film introduce you to even more of the enormous cast than we’ve listed here. We’ll bring you a new song the has the Sven Squad going on their own walkabout when they encounter … The Mist! Sven News will report on a certain weather phenomenon with Gwen on the news desk, Nostalgiaferatoo in the field and weatherman Ty Foon explaining said phenomenon. And yes, Ty Foon does very much resemble IMP and remember we called him a weatherman not a meteorologist. Nostalgiaferatoo welcomes actor Nathan Gamble who portrayed the young Billy Drayton in “The Mist” to Nosti’s Nook for a real peek under the hood of what life was like on the set of the film.
